Moong Dal Halwa (मूंग दाल हलवा) - benefits and recipe

Moong pudding known as "moong ka halwa" is an Indian Sweet dish. It is more preferred in Rajasthan, it doubles the pleasure of eating it in winter. Every region of India has its own way of making it. It is made from Moong daal which is a great source of nutrients, other ingredients also include:- clarified butter(Ghee), dry fruits, Mawa, milk and sugar. 

Most people make it on special and auspicious occasions like Holi, Diwali, Rakshabandhan (Indian festivals) and marriages. One of the reasons is that it takes a lot of time and effort to make it. 

The specialty of this halwa is that it is made from moong dal which contains a lot of nutrients like: manganese, copper, potassium, magnesium, folate, copper, zinc, etc.

 1 cup Moong Dal (250 gm)

 1 cup Ghee (200 gm)

 1 cup sugar ( 200 gm)

 2 cups water ( 400 ml)

 6 pod green cardamom split

 1 cup khoya (250 gm)

 1/4 cup finely chopped dry fruits (of your choice).


Preparation Time:- 15 minutes.

Cooking Time:- 30 - 40 minutes.


Method:-

1) Wash thoroughly and soak the moong daal overnight in water.

2) After soaking, grind it into smooth paste using mixer grinder.

3) Heat pan and add khoya, stir it till it becomes golden brown and keep it aside.

4) On the other hand prepare sugar syrup and add cardamoms to it, keep it aside too.

5) Heat clarified butter (ghee) and add moong daal paste to it, stir it till it becomes golden.

6) Add khoya and mix it for 2mintes. 

7) Add sugar syrup and mix it well for next 5minutes on medium flame.

8) Lastly, add the chopped dry fruits and vive it a stir for 2minutes. Then turn off the stove.

9) Garnish it with some more dry fruits or silver foil(vark) as per your likes.

If the quantity of pudding is high then you can also put it in the refrigerator for almost 1 week just add some milk before reheating it.
